A major machine tool manufacturer decided to use Air Casters to setup an in-plant customer demonstration room. The equipment requirements included a system that
would easily move machine tools up to 20,000 pounds with offset loading into and out of the show room; allow optimization of limited floor space and not damage or
scuff the newly applied epoxy floor surface. To accomplish this a model 4LD21GL rigging set was selected that included four each twenty one (21) inch diameter
light weight Air Caster Load Modules, four color coordinated interconnecting hoses with quick disconnects, one control box with four self relieving pressure
regulators/gauges and one main air supply hose. Total system capacity of all four Air Casters is 28,000 pounds with an air consumption of 70 SCFM @ 25 PSIG and
an effective lift height of 3/4 inch.
The operation is simple. Air Casters with wood cribbing were inserted under the load; inflated with in-plant compressed
air to ¾ inch thus lifting the machine tool off the existing leveling pads and then floated into the room for final positioning by two workers. The pressure
regulators provided a convenient means for the operators to compensate for off centered loading. Since Air Casters float large loads on a thin film of air,
the machine tools could be easily transported in any direction allowing for an optimal number of machine tools to be precisely positioned in the show room.
In addition the 3 to 5 thousand film of air used during floatation, protected the floor surface from any damage or scuffs.
Air Casters are manufactured in
diameters ranging from 12 to 60 inches and can transport loads from 200 pounds up to thousands of tons. Air Casters require only 3- 5 pounds of effort per
1000 pounds of weight on a standard smooth, sealed concrete floor surface. Once floating the Air Casters provide omni directional capability for total
flexibility within the manufacturing cycle, optimization of floor space, reduce labor hours to transport loads, and improved quality and safety while preventing
