Riggers Use Air Casters to Move Injection Mold Machines

Aeris Corporation: Major rigging companies throughout the United States are using Air Casters to move injection mold machines from the receiving dock into final position in a matter of minutes. Advantages include reduced labor hours, improved safety, the ability to maneuver in tight quarters, and no damage to the concrete floors.

As a result total installation time is reduced, allowing the end customer to get the injection mold machines positioned and fully functioning faster than ever. In today’s environment this is critical due to competitive pressures and the necessity of optimizing the return on investment of expensive capital equipment. In addition, Air Casters allow riggers in many cases to move injection mold machines without the use of fork trucks. It’s easier, faster and safer to send a crew in without large, expensive, powered driven vehicles.

Air Casters have revolutionized the way large machines are moved within our factories. On a smooth sealed concrete surface it takes only 3-5 pounds of effort for each 1000 pounds of load. Air Casters accomplish this mechanical advantage by providing a thin film of air between the heavy duty torus bag of the Air Caster and the floor surface. This air film is also the same mechanism that protects the floor surface. Modern injection mold facilities spend thousand of dollars on expensive epoxy concrete surfaces and they want it to stay that way. This is why Air Casters are the preferred in-plant moving method.

Another positive feature of the thin film of air is the omni-direction capability of Air Casters. Plants all over the United States are trying to maximize in-plant productivity. Therefore they are constantly adding additional machinery into fixed areas to avoid building new additions or new plants. The ability to move machines forward in a straight line, sideways, obliquely, or by rotating, give the rigger the tools to fit equipment into difficult areas with ease. Thus, allowing most facilities the option of avoiding expensive expansions to existing plants.
